B+ Episode Guest, Anna Berry
When Anna Berry lost her husband Mike to an unexpected heart attack after a long health battle, her world changed in an instant. In this deeply moving episode of the B+ podcast, Anna shares her story of grief, rediscovery, and healing—offering listeners an honest glimpse into what it means to keep living after unimaginable loss.
Anna and Mike were high school sweethearts who built a life together over three decades. After his passing, Anna faced the daunting task of figuring out who she was on her own, with both of their children grown, and a future that suddenly looked nothing like she had imagined.
But as Anna reveals in this conversation, her story didn’t end that day.

1. You can carry grief and joy at the same time.
Anna reminds us that grief doesn’t go away—it just finds a quieter place to live within us. Over time, she’s learned to smile more often than she cries, even while continuing to honor Mike’s memory every day.
2. Rediscovering yourself is part of the healing.
After nearly 30 years in a partnership, Anna had never lived alone. Moving into her own space, creating new routines, and focusing on self-care helped her reconnect with who she is today—not just who she was before or during marriage.
3. Physical wellness can be a gateway to emotional strength.
Inspired by a desire to be present for her kids and protect her own health, Anna committed to walking, working out, and rebuilding her strength. She’s since lost 50 pounds and says movement has been essential to her mental clarity and healing.
4. It’s okay to not be okay.
A pivotal book, It’s Okay That You’re Not Okay by Megan Devine, helped Anna give herself permission to grieve in her own time. That message shaped her approach to healing—and how she now supports others.
5. Grace is essential—especially for yourself.
Anna’s mantra throughout her journey has been to give grace: to herself, to others, and to the process of grief. She’s learned that healing is not linear, and perfection is not required.
Today, Anna is channeling her story into hope for others. She’s launching grief coaching services, writing a book titled Journeys of the Heart, and continuing to share her experience online. As she puts it:
“I want to be a source of light for others—because that’s the best way I can honor Mike.”
